How to set up MetaMask to start collecting Airdrops
There is a chance you’ve heard of how cryptocurrencies are being given away for free, called an airdrop, as a way to market projects and ICO’s. If you want to take part in these token airdrops, you will most certainly need a wallet to store the cryptocurrencies in once the are airdopped to you.
Here is a simple and easy way to set up a MetaMask wallet so you can start to collect your free crypto!
What Is MetaMask?
MetaMask is a popular wallet which can be used on as a Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Brave browser extension. After installing this wallet, you will be able to complete transactions over the Ethereum Blockchain. MetaMask provides a simple and easy way for you to access your wallet without needing to download the entire Blockchain or install a specific type of software. It empowers you to interact with websites running Decentralized Applications (DApps) and sign Smart Contracts. By providing a one stop shop for sending, storing, and receiving ETH (or ERC20 Tokens), MetaMask makes is safe and easy for all users to use the browser extension.
How To Set Up Metamask
First, if you are using Safari or another browser, you will need to download one of the other browsers MetaMask runs on; Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, or Brave. Chrome and Brave are two of our favorite browsers!
Second, navigate to the MetaMask website to download the extension. Follow the step-by-step instructions to get started. We suggest you come up with a strong and secure password and then make sure you store that password somewhere safe. If you are struggling to come up with a strong password, create a hash using a simple phrase (string) and then use the hash of that phrase as your password. MD5 is a string to hash generator that will do the trick. MetaMask will generate a 12 word seed phrase, this is very important. You will need to save this seed phrase somewhere safe as well. In the unfortunate case that you will need to, this seed can be used to restore your account if you lose your password. You will see that a public Ethereum network wallet address was created on the Main Network when you open the extension. You have the ability to add accounts using the button in the top right hand corner of the MetaMask extension. Every time you set up an account a new wallet address is created. This allows you the ability to access and manage many wallets under one sign in.
Third, you’re all set up! You can now send and receive ETH or ERC20 Tokens to you MetaMask wallet. You can test it out by going to your Coinbase (or any other exchange) and sending ETH to your MetaMask wallet address. Just copy and paste the address on the MetaMask wallet account you want the ETH to be sent to. Then paste that address as the recipient on the exchange. Remember though, all transactions on the Ethereum network will cost you ‘gas’. This is the ETH transaction fee for the network. So make sure you keep that extra cost in mind when transacting.
